If you haven’t noticed recently, take a look at what’s going on in the modular industry these days. You might still think that modular homes only come in two styles—rancher or rancher—but check out the unique homes offered by www.newworldhome.net. This is a company that produces energy-efficient modular homes that are inspired by traditional, classic residential designs. Country Living magazine featured one of New World Home’s projects that was completed in 60 days and uses 50% less energy than your average American home. And to look at it, you’d never guess this beautiful farmhouse-style home was a new construction modular.
Because of nature of the factory-built process, modular homes use less materials and therefore less waste during the construction process. New World Home uses popular eco-friendly building practices, such as strategically orienting the home for maximum solar gain during the cold winter months and installing recycled “vintage… light fixtures and mantles.” Additionally, locally harvested hardwood flooring lends to the overall traditional character of the home. Cabinets, paint and finishes are low-VOC and contain little or no formaldehyde, reducing dreaded off-gasing and overall toxicity of the interior itself.
Many modular home builders are shedding the old reputation of shoddy craftsmanship and doubtful structural credibility. Modular building can to be a great solution to a number of problems facing today’s home buyers. A new modular home can reduce your overall construction costs while providing you with a spacious, modern, eco-friendly home.

Hello Mark,
Saw your post on energy efficient modular homes and the link to newworldhome.net. Thanks for giving this up and coming homebuilding niche some recognition.
We (Sandy Spring Builders) are are long time high end custom home builder in the DC area. Over the last two + years we have been working with Haven Custom Homes (havenhomes.com) to design and bring to market a new line of green, envirnonmentally friendly new homes with the architecturaly design details and incredibly liveable floor plans our stick buit custom homes are known for. We’ve built three to date (sold two and have a furnished model in Bethesda) and we are finishing a $2.5 million+ custom modular in the town of Somerset (Chevy Chase, MD). Not to brag but our homes are unlike any modular you have ever seen – 9 and 10 foot ceilings, hardwood, granite, wood cabinets, etc…with an array of custom features. Our new homes will be both NAHB Green certified and ENERGY STAR certified.
I am not looking for anything. Rather, just wanted to alert you to what we are doing here as it is breaking new ground in terms of infill modular/green construction. Our website (www.sandyspringclassichomes.com) will be fully functional next Monday but if you go to it you can see a picture of one of the homes we build in Bethesda last year. You can tell it is not a traditional modular home…
Glad to provide more info.details if you have an interset.
